Wildfire Preparedness Week - May 4th-10th, 2025

Preparedness isn't just for one week; it's a continuous effort. Wildfire Preparedness Week serves as a crucial reminder of the ever-present threat of wildfires in California and the need for proactive preparedness. Extreme climate conditions continue to contribute to the increasing frequency and severity of catastrophic wildfires. The wildfire challenge in California is year-round.
Local Fire Districts, Fire Safe Councils, Resource Conservation Districts, NFPA Firewise USA and the California Home Hardening Program play critical roles in community preparedness.

Individual Responsibility and Call to Action:
- Every Californian has a role in wildfire prevention and preparedness.
- Create defensible space — especially focus on Zone 0, the first 5 feet around your home. “Start at your home and work your way out”
- Harden your home with ignition-resistant building materials.
- Develop and practice a wildfire action plan using tools like FirePLANNER at ReadyForWildfire.org.
- Ensure you are signed up for Amador County emergency alerts at Smart911.
- Stay informed by signing up for emergency alerts at listoscalifornia.org/alerts.
- Pack a go-bag and be ready to evacuate.
- Wildfire Preparedness Week calls on all Californians to take proactive steps to reduce wildfire risks and support community-wide mitigation efforts.
